The reverse of the ring features ornaments inspired by the traditional Maori wood carvings. Completely hand-carved in wax, the ring was cast in white gold using the lost wax technique. The technically flawless casting resulted in a perfect casting crust that has been preserved as the surface of the ring. The yellow-brown diamond was specifically cut for this ring, drawing stylistic inspiration from the octagonal tablecuts of the Renaissance era.
